The fighting system is meh but it's worth doing for the story. Really loved this one, they made it a free2play game and renamed it Secret world legends.

The Secret World: Same as guild wars, the story is awesome and the side quests too (exploring a pyramid full of traps, looking in your own bible to get answers for a quest etc.). Guild wars 2: It's an mmorpg but the base game is free and there is a story. Fable 2: For xbox 360 only if you have one, very good rpg witha good story.

Stardew valley: Farm simulator with a story, dungeons to explore and lot's of different things to do, full coop. Dead Island: Survive on an island full of zombies with your fiance, the story is a bit meh but it's fun playing with others. Resident evil 5: full coop campaign with a tiny bit of rpg (mostly buying new weapons and upgrading them). Calamity is the most commonly referenced mod, and has an absolutely ludicrous amount of content.

Payday 2, Dying Light and Warhammer: Vermintide are some other great co-op FPS games (the latter two are more slashers than shooters though), and Terraria has a free extension called Tmodloader that lets you easily mess around with mod packs for the game.
I'll second Deep Rock Galactic, it's one of the best co-op FPS games on the market. Oxygen Not Included and Factorio are tangentially related to Rimworld in that they're both world management games (building a colony/factory) and I know for a fact that Factorio has multiplayer, but they've a tendency to be both highly addictive and cognitively exhausting. Rimworld is a singleplayer (with a multiplayer mod via Steam Workship if memory serves) colony management game, sort of like The Sims with the addition of organ harvesting and omnicidal squirrels. Kenshi is a strictly singleplayer open world squad based survival game that's most accurately compared to Mount & Blade Warband (which, while singleplayer and quite old, is also worth looking at) Kenshi and Rimworld are both games with a large focus on roleplaying and emergent storytelling, but they're not exactly the same as DOS: Too much grind.Can't think of many pure RPGs with the depth of Divinity, but there are some slightly similar games to make note of. I haven't been able to get into MMO's for a while though. I haven't tried ESO, but I'd imagine it suffers from the same MMO problem of the grind and possibly lack of meaningful choice. We just don't have time to dedicate to raids anymore. Guild Wars 2 is fun and doesn't have a monthly fee, but we got board after getting a few characters to max level.

We used to play WoW but got tired of feeling like we have to play due to monthly fees, plus we didn't like the changes the game was making. Fun game overall, but after you play through a few times with different classes and difficulty it gets pretty darn boring. It's all about the arcade style fighting. Similar to Pillars of Eternity and not Divinity.ĭiablo has limited story. You could go old school and do Icewind Dale 1 and 2 and Baulders Gate 2 (not sure if BG1 has co-op) It's old, but fun. I'm in the same boat and haven't found anything we both want to try yet.
